Five things in fashion right now for women over 40

Yay! Some good things that work for women over 40. On a personal note, I’m so grateful because I feel more at home in my clothes than ever.  A lot of it comes down to trial and error, body acceptance (no matter how much my body keeps changing) and honestly, just wearing what I love.

Now that I’m in my 50’s, it’s kinda fun to look back at styles over the years - even my own. I can now say “I used to wear that 90’s look in my 20’s”… lol, when did I turn into my mom??

Seriously though, the most refreshing thing about fashion right now is the stuff that’s rooted in ‘good stuff.’ These things can work for everyone, regardless of your style or shape…..

Timelessness

Trench coats, trousers, blazers and button downs… linen, cotton, silk….neutrals… classic silhouettes. It’s all so refreshing. There’s a certain “grown up” vibe in this crew, yet they can be easily be styled to feel modern and unique. The best part… you probably have a bunch of these in your closet right now AND you’ll wear them for years to come.

Individuality

I love that anything goes right now.  You don’t have to dress like everyone or anyone else. It’s a perfect time to embrace what makes you unique and re-discover how you want to feel in your clothes.

Sustainability

Shopping smarter; wasting less.  Knowing how your clothes are made and supporting brands you believe in. Consigning or donating clothes you no longer wear so someone else can actually wear them.  Buying vintage or gently used designer pieces from places like The Real Real.  Being sustainable comes in so many forms. But, don’t forget… wearing the clothes you already have is one of the easiest ways to be sustainable.

Comfort

Bring it on! Sneakers, lug soles, sport sandals, elastic waists, billowy blouses and dresses. We are seeing lots of looser cuts, and prioritizing comfort.  Definitely a result of a couple years at home in sweatpants and leggings, but I’ve got to be honest, I love it. The best part is practicality and comfort has turned into a vibe of looking effortless. Who doesn’t want that?

Having a closet of full of clothes you love and wear

During Covid, we came face to face with all the things that we didn’t wear.  Here we are a couple years later and there’s no going back.  Now is the time to figure out what makes you feel good and let go of the rest so you can celebrate the beautiful woman you are today.

I’d love to hear from you and know if any of these resonate with you. Just get in touch here.
