What it means to curate your closet for the body and life you have today

I’ve had trouble getting dressed lately.  Yes, me, the closet curator and personal stylist who helps other women feel their best everyday.

It’s the shoes.

I know that sounds trivial, but really, it’s been a challenge. I had a toe injury about a month ago and haven’t been able to wear any shoes except pool slides and Birkenstocks.

What’s been happening is I go to get dressed and I’m having a really hard time making things work. Not only is the vibe off… but the scale is off.

It all falls flat with the shoes. Everything feels a little underwhelming and a bit dumpy. I’m missing the bit of height and the finishing of an elevated shoe or boot.

So, my favorite knee high black leather boots, my brown suede ankle boots and my strappy suede sandals I wear around the holidays are all on hold this season.

After struggling for weeks, I decided it was time to invest in a few things that work right now. I bought a pair of black shearling Birkenstocks that add a touch of luxe and I can pair with my satin slip skirt and a cashmere sweater.  I also found these kitten heel Toteme thong sandals that give me just the bit of height and femininity to offset my blouses and jeans uniform.

The moral of this story… you deserve to feel beautiful right now.

Don’t wait.

If you are a size bigger than you were last year and your favorite jeans don’t fit the way you’d like them to, buy a new pair that you love. If you realized all your blouses don’t lay right, try some new ones and see what works best.

Our lives and bodies are constantly changing and life throws us surprises that we might not be prepared for.  Would you believe I know two other women who have foot injuries and have to re-think their footwear?

Do this for you:

Get in your closet and do a mini edit.  Tuck away or let go of pieces that no longer work. Be good to yourself and invest in a few things that do.

That’s what curating your closet for the life and body you have today is all about.

xoxo, Laura
