Spring trends to get inspired by if you are over 50 and don’t want to look trendy

‘I want to look modern, but not trendy.’  Does this sound like you?

It’s something I hear from so many women I work with. The word trendy has a negative connotation because it suggests you should be wearing something in order to look current, in style, or modern. But you know that’s not the case. You don’t want to look trendy because you don’t want to look like everyone else. You want to look like you and you want to look and feel modern. You can. It’s a balance of incorporating trends into your wardrobe that works for you.

Here’s what trends can do for you.

You can be inspired! And isn’t that the exciting thing about style, fashion and getting dressed? It’s an act of creativity and self expression. A trend can inspire you to look in your own closet and revisit something you already have and wear it in a new way.  It doesn’t have to be the exact thing….it’s even better if it’s something you already have and you are bringing new life into it.

All the new trends each season bring lots of options. When it’s hard to find things you love and work for you, something trending can open up many more possibilities choose from.

This Spring, I want to share some trends that are also timeless and don’t feel trendy at all.  I’ve curated some picks and sharing links to pieces I love. I hope these inspire you to consider new possibilities of what you’d really love to wear at this time of your life.

Low heels

Kitten heels, block heels, slides… minimal, feminine or bold….there are so many options.  I love the sheer practicality of a low heel as they are so much easier to walk in. A low heel elevates a casual look or gives you an effortless vibe for a night out.

Classic Vibes

Classic silhouettes and pieces are still going strong after a few seasons and I’m so grateful this “non-trend” trend is here to stay.  There are so many options for pieces that can work for different styles and bodies and for different occasions. Whether it’s easy trouser that you can wear with flip flops or a low heel, a fit and flare dress you can wear to dinner or an event or a simple button down to wear with jeans and statement jewelry.

A Skirt Story

Pencil, full, midi, maxi, tailored, pleated… so many skirts! Have you noticed the abundance of skirts over the past years? If you find it difficult to find dresses that fit in all the right places, a skirt may be just what you are looking for.  You can also make it less feminine by pairing a tank or tee, or go monochrome to get the same elongating vibe as a dress.

Raffia

Timeless, summery, French… I’ve had a Bottega raffia bag for going over 15+ years that I still cherish and wear today. Raffia pieces capture an effortless, carefree vibe and bring texture and interest to any look.
