Refresh your early Fall Look

What are you wearing these days?  Here on the east coast, it feels like Fall in the morning and Summer by the afternoon. I don’t know about you, but as much as I love summer, I’m so ready to switch up what I’m wearing. It’s time to put away the dresses I’ve been wearing nonstop and bring some new life into my everyday look. But we aren’t full on sweaters and boots yet, so what do you wear in this transitional weather?

Here are a few tips to bring a breath of fresh air into your early Fall look.  The best thing is most of these can be created right from your own closet.

Adjust your color palette

Just retiring and tucking away the pieces that “scream” height of summer can make you feel like you have a new wardrobe. Opt for bringing in rich neutral hues - chocolate brown, tan, khaki, olive, cream, black, navy, dusty pink, burgundy.  Keep your colors to 2-3 max for an effortless yet elevated look:

Cream + Chocolate + Black

Cream + Black

Olive + White + Chocolate

Tan + Black

Pink + Brown

Balance out your sandals

Yes, you can still wear open toe sandals way into the end of September - even October as long as the weather is warm enough.  Pair them with a long sleeve blouse or sleeveless or short sleeve knit and light trousers or jeans to give a little extra weight to your look. Come October, you can go with a chunkier cardigan with your sandals for a night out.

Add texture

if you have suede sandals or bags, this is the time to pull them out.  Leather, silk, patent, and animal prints also add the right amount of “Fall” to a crisp white blouse and jeans.

Ground your whites and brights with darker hues.

Yes, you can still rock that white dress right now.  Ground it with black or leopard sandals or black and a dark bag.  Solid brights feel right at home when paired with tan and chocolate brown.

Add a “smart” piece

Summer is naturally easy and effortless. Come Fall, it’s a natural time (back to school / back from holiday) to dress a little smarter. What does that mean?  Put away your summer bag add a structured bag that feels more put together. Pair a blazer over a tank, bring out your button downs, blouses with ties, loafers and slip on mules. Adding just one of these elements can feel fresh and practical right now.

Switch up your jewelry

Dig into your jewelry drawer and pull a couple new pieces to swap out your regular go-to’s.  Bolder, chunkier pieces add a little weight to lighter pieces.  Just switching it up can bring new life to your everyday look.

Change your polish

Sometimes, t’s the simple things. Darker reds, browns, greys, midnight blue, dusty pink.  A polish change can really transform the way your sandals look.  I’m currently loving the dark brown of Essie’s “Dark Night” and how it contrasts against a tan or white sandal.  Definitely a step into Fall.

Still need some inspiration? Try these pairings….

  • Tanks with loose trousers or jeans and neutral sandals or sneakers.

  • Khaki or cream trousers with a sleeveless top or knit.

  • Slip dress and sneakers.

  • A solid neutral dress and leopard sandals.

Dig into your closet and have some fun!
